What Is a One-Step ISBM Machine?

A one-step injection stretch blow molding machine — also referred to as a single-stage ISBM machine, one-step blow moulding machine, or integrated stretch blow moulder — consolidates three historically separate operations into a single continuous manufacturing cycle within one piece of equipment.

In traditional two-step (two-stage) production, a separate injection molding machine produces preforms that are cooled, stored, and later reheated in a standalone reheat stretch blow molding machine (RSBM). The one-step process eliminates the reheating stage entirely: the preform moves directly from the injection station to a conditioning / tail-cutting zone, then to the stretch-blow station, and finally to the take-out position — all within the same machine and the same production cycle. This is the core efficiency advantage that enables energy savings of up to 40% compared to two-stage systems.

The biaxial molecular orientation achieved during the simultaneous axial (rod) and radial (air pressure) stretch phase gives ISBM bottles superior compression resistance, barrier properties, and optical clarity compared to extrusion blow molded (EBM) containers of equivalent wall thickness.

How Is IBM Different from ISBM?

Injection blow molding (IBM) is a three-station rotary process in which plastic is first injection-molded around a core pin (forming the preform and the finished bottle neck simultaneously), then rotated to a blow station where compressed air expands the softened preform against a closed cavity mold, and finally rotated to a stripping station. There is no stretch rod — the process is purely injection-then-blow, without biaxial orientation.

IBM excels at producing small, precise, thin-walled containers (1ml eye drops to 1,000ml pharmaceutical syrups) in materials such as HDPE, LDPE, PP, PS, and PCTG. Because IBM produces zero flash and requires no trimming, it is the preferred process for GMP pharmaceutical packaging, where cleanliness and neck finish accuracy are non-negotiable.

Our EP-ZQ series European-style IBM machines feature a proprietary pressurized clamping structure in which the booster cylinder does not participate in the mold open/close action.
